Nutmeg has a mild and aromatic flavour with a sweet earthy flavour that works well for both sweet and savoury dishes.

Ground Nutmeg is a convenient alternative to grating a whole nutmeg. If you do not have either to hand; Mace, Allspice, Cinnamon or Ginger can be used. It is often used in desserts such as cakes and biscuits due to its sweet flavouring. However used in small amounts, it blends well in savoury dishes such as bread, soups, stews and sauces. Nutmeg is the secret ingredient to the perfect béchamel sauce.
